“We’re Ready to Comply” – Yaw Borgga Confirms Fare Cut in Juaboso

The Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Juaboso, Mr. Yaw Nketiah, popularly known as Yaw Borgga, has confirmed that transport fares will be reduced following a drop in fuel prices. The Ministry of Transport recently held a meeting with transport operators to discuss how the reduction in fuel prices should reflect in transport fares.

The outcome of the meeting saw transport operators agreeing to reduce fares by 15%.In an interview with Legend Report, Mr. Nketiah confirmed that the Public Relations Officer of GPRTU, Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim Moro, officially announced the fare reduction. According to him, all local branches have received the directive and are ready to comply.

He noted that the new fares will take effect from Saturday, and drivers are currently working on the necessary calculations to implement the new rates before that day. However, Mr. Nketiah raised concerns about the high cost of spare parts, which remains unchanged despite the drop in fuel prices.

He appealed to the Minister of Transport to engage with spare parts dealers to consider lowering their prices, as these costs continue to affect drivers and their operations.

Passengers have welcomed the move, applauding the Ministry of Transport and the transport operators for the agreement. Many stated that the high fares have been a burden, and the reduction will bring some financial relief. They also called on the government to address the rising cost of food and inflation. Although the Ghanaian cedi is gaining strength against the dollar, prices of goods and services remain high, which many find unacceptable.

Citizens are urging the government to take steps to stabilize the economy further.
