Western North Regional Police Command Meets the Press for Engagement

The Western North Regional Police Command, led by the newly appointed Regional Commander, DCOP Dr. Francis Kwame Tsidi, held a media engagement session aimed at introducing the new commander and sharing his vision and mission for the region.

The event, which took place yesterday at the Sefwi Wiawso Police Division Headquarters in Tanoso, also served to strengthen ties between the police and the media.

In his address, DCOP Dr. Tsidi acknowledged that under past administrations, the media had been blacklisted and denied access to key information from the police.

However, he noted that the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) has taken steps to remove these barriers, making it possible for journalists to engage directly with police leadership at both the district and regional levels.

He emphasized that media professionals should always seek verified information—particularly on criminal matters—before publishing, to ensure accurate and responsible reporting.

DCOP Dr. Tsidi further explained that his appointment as Regional Commander is part of the IGP’s strategic plan to curb illegal mining and protect the region’s forests and water bodies. He assured that he would be held accountable by the IGP and pledged to work closely with his personnel to enforce environmental and security laws.

He reiterated his commitment to integrity, accountability, transparency, and justice, urging all journalists in the region to base their reports on facts and to seek guidance from appropriate police sources when necessary.

This engagement marks a renewed partnership between the police and the media in promoting safety, transparency, and development in the Western North Region.
