The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Police Service to recruit 12,000 young people as Police Assistants. The agreement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency, Mr. Malik Basintale, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The initiative is aimed at offering job opportunities to the youth while supporting the police service at the district level.According to Mr. Hayford Panyin, the Western North Regional Manager of YEA, the recruitment is designed to help reduce unemployment among the youth.
He mentioned that the MoU will be renewed every two years to continue offering this opportunity.Mr. Panyin stated that the recruitment process will involve selecting 12,000 young men and women from across the country. Once the agreement is fully in place, an online portal will be opened for interested Ghanaian youth aged 18 and above to apply. He emphasized that applicants will be shortlisted up to the 1,200 limit, with each region receiving a fair quota, which will also be fairly distributed among the districts.
He explained that the job is a two-year contract and will eventually end. However, one-third of the 12,000 youth will have the opportunity to be integrated into the mainstream police service, depending on their performance and qualifications.
In conclusion, Mr. Panyin assured that the agency will ensure all procedures and standards are properly followed before enrollment begins.
