The Western North Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Hayford Arthur Panyin, says the agency is equipping young people in the region with practical skills to enable them to secure sustainable employment and establish their own businesses.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at empowering the youth through skills development rather than simply providing them with temporary financial support.
He said the youth constitute the future leadership of the country, stressing the need for stakeholders to create opportunities that would improve their livelihoods and economic prospects.
We are teaching the youth how to fish rather than giving them fish, he said, explaining that the YEA’s skills training programmes are designed to enable beneficiaries to become self-reliant and earn a sustainable income.
Mr. Panyin said the agency had trained young people in various artisan skills and provided start-up equipment to enable beneficiaries to put their training into practice.
He disclosed that more than 2,000 young people in the Western North Region had benefited from employment opportunities and skills-development initiatives introduced by the YEA.
He further encouraged young people interested in acquiring vocational and technical skills to visit the YEA for information and support on available training programmes.
Mr. Panyin made the remarks on Thursday, August 6, 2026, when the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency, Malik Basintale, visited the Western North Region to present start-up equipment to young people who had successfully completed YEA skills-training programmes.
The intervention forms part of the agency’s broader efforts to equip young people with practical skills and resources to create jobs for themselves and contribute to the development of the region.
