The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Health Directorate in the Western North Region has recorded over 200 dog-bite cases and four deaths from rabies between January and October 2026, raising concerns over the spread of the deadly disease in the municipality.
The Health Directorate is therefore urging residents, particularly dog owners, to take the necessary precautions by vaccinating their dogs and other pets to help prevent rabies infections and further deaths.
Speaking in an interview with Legendreport.com at Sefwi Ankra Muano in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, the Municipal Disease Control Officer, Doris Verome, described the situation as a major concern.

She explained the dangers associated with rabies and stressed the importance of seeking immediate medical attention following a dog bite, as failure to receive appropriate treatment can have fatal consequences.
Doris Verome was speaking during a sensitisation programme organised by the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Health Directorate to educate residents about rabies and commemorate World Rabies Day.
She further urged dog owners to ensure their pets receive the necessary vaccinations and are properly cared for to reduce the risk of rabies transmission in the municipality.
Meanwhile, residents who participated in the sensitisation programme commended the Municipal Health Directorate for the initiative. They said the education had increased their understanding of rabies and the dangers associated with dog bites, and pledged to vaccinate their pets and take better care of them.
