The Member of Parliament for Bia West, Mustapha Tanko Amadu, has secured five additional MTN telecommunications masts for communities within the constituency following sustained engagements with the National Communications Authority (NCA), MTN Ghana, the Ministry of Communications and other relevant stakeholders.
The development is expected to improve network connectivity in several communities and electoral areas that have experienced poor or no telecommunications coverage.
Pictures from the MP’s engagements show him presenting the telecommunications challenges confronting Bia West to officials of the NCA, MTN Ghana and the Ministry of Communications, led by the Minister, Samuel Nartey George.
A geographical map of the Bia West District was displayed during the engagement, with the MP identifying communities and electoral areas affected by inadequate network coverage and making a case for interventions.
According to information from the MP’s camp, Bia West previously had only eight MTN masts across the district. Following persistent lobbying and engagements with the relevant institutions, five additional MTN masts have now been secured for the constituency.
The development means that technical teams and engineers are expected to undertake surveys in beneficiary communities as part of the process towards establishing the new infrastructure.
The MP’s engagements are being presented as part of efforts to address longstanding infrastructure and connectivity challenges affecting residents, businesses, students and other users of telecommunications services in Bia West.
The expected expansion of network infrastructure could also improve access to digital services, mobile financial transactions, communication and other technology-enabled activities in underserved communities.
The development has been described as an example of how parliamentary representation can translate community concerns into direct engagements with institutions responsible for providing solutions.
Residents are expected to see further technical activities in selected communities as preparations for the additional telecommunications infrastructure progress.
