JOMORO, Western Region – October 15, 2026
The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has reportedly granted financial clearance for the construction of the Samenya–New Town road in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region, alongside the rehabilitation of the Ankobra Bridge.
The financial clearance marks a significant step towards the implementation of the two infrastructure projects, which are expected to improve road connectivity, ease transportation challenges and support economic activities in Jomoro and neighbouring communities.
With the financial clearance process reportedly completed, attention is expected to shift to the next stages of implementation, subject to the relevant procurement, contractual and administrative requirements.
The Samenya–New Town road is a key route for residents, motorists, traders and other road users. However, its deteriorating condition has been a major concern for the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toofey, traditional leaders, drivers and residents.
The approximately 25-kilometre stretch runs from Samenya Barrier through Half Assini to New Town, near the Ghana–Côte d’Ivoire border.

Its construction is expected to ease transportation difficulties, improve access to essential services and facilitate the movement of goods and people within the municipality.
Similarly, the planned rehabilitation of the Ankobra Bridge is expected to address concerns about its deteriorating condition and improve the safety and efficiency of movement for commuters and commercial transport operators who depend on the route.
The two projects are particularly important to communities whose livelihoods depend on farming, fishing, trading and other economic activities that require reliable transport infrastructure.
The reported financial clearance comes amid growing calls from residents for urgent investment in Jomoro’s road network. In July 2026, residents appealed for improvements to the municipality’s roads, citing the impact of poor road conditions on transportation, access to healthcare and economic activities.

The Ankobra Bridge has also attracted public concern over its condition. In August 2026, residents called for urgent rehabilitation, warning of potential dangers to road users.
The latest development is therefore expected to raise hopes among residents and other stakeholders who have long called for improvements to the area’s transport infrastructure.
However, the specific amount covered by the financial clearance, the official commencement date for the road construction and the timeline for the bridge rehabilitation had not been independently confirmed at the time of publication.
If followed by timely implementation, the projects could improve connectivity, facilitate commercial activities and support infrastructure development in the Jomoro Municipality.
