Kum Timothy, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director for Bodi Constituency and Deputy Director of Communications for the party’s National Youth Wing, has alleged that some government officials in the Western North Region are involved in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

According to him, some of the officials are allegedly supporting illegal miners whose activities are contributing to the destruction of forests, rivers and farmlands across the region.

Kum Timothy made the allegations during a live interview on the LegendReport Facebook page, where he expressed concern about the reported expansion of illegal mining activities in parts of the Western North Region.

He also referred to allegations made by traditional authorities against the Member of Parliament for Aowin over alleged involvement in illegal mining. He questioned why, according to him, no action had been taken against the MP by the government.

However, the allegations against the MP and other officials have not been independently verified by legendreport.

Speaking about the situation in Bodi Constituency, Kum Timothy claimed that some areas that had reportedly remained free from galamsey activities for the past eight years were now experiencing illegal mining.

He mentioned Attaboka, Timtimhwe and other communities as places where he alleged that illegal mining activities were taking place.

His comments have raised concerns about the effectiveness of efforts to combat illegal mining and the possible involvement of influential individuals in activities that threaten the region’s natural resources.
