The Deputy Communications Officer for the NDC in the Akontombra Constituency and also Deputy Dean of Communicators in the Western North Region, Mr. Randy Ofori, has revealed that the sand truck under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) is being used for commercial hiring to generate funds.

According to him, the truck is hired out to individuals and contractors who need sand transportation services, and the money generated is used to buy fuel for bulldozers, trucks, and other machines to reshape the deplorable roads in the district.

Mr. Randy Ofori explained that the DRIP coordinator currently has no funds to fuel the machines, making it difficult for the equipment to operate effectively while many roads in the district remain in poor condition and require urgent reshaping.

He stated that the District Assembly, led by the District Chief Executive, Joseph Appiah, popularly known as “Ammonia,” decided to use the sand truck for hiring purposes so the Assembly can generate internal funds to support road maintenance activities.

According to him, the government has not yet released funds to support the operations of the machines, compelling the Assembly to adopt this strategy to keep the equipment working.

Mr. Randy Ofori made these remarks during an interview on the Sefwinews TV digital platform on the program “Krom Mu Nsem,” hosted by Wacus.

He further revealed that the public is aware that the sand truck is being used for hiring and noted that the revenue generated is treated as internally generated funds, adding that the DCE accounts for the proceeds accordingly.
