The Aowin Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Karim Ndego, has revealed that almost all basic schools in Enchi, the municipal capital of Aowin, have been temporarily closed due to the ongoing flooding situation.

According to Mr. Ndego, the flooding has become very severe, making it unsafe for schoolchildren to attend classes. He explained that the continuous rise in floodwaters poses a serious threat to the lives of pupils and teachers.

He stated that NADMO, in consultation with the Aowin Municipal Education Directorate, decided to close some of the basic schools located in flood-prone areas for about one week to ensure the safety of students.

Mr. Ndego also outlined some of the causes of the flooding. He noted that unauthorized building structures blocking waterways, poor sanitation practices, and the indiscriminate dumping of waste into drains and water channels have contributed significantly to the situation.

Speaking to ADO II, Mr. Isaac Okyere, the Municipal Safety Officer, advised parents to keep a close watch on their children and to prevent them from playing or swimming in floodwaters.

He warned that such activities could put the lives of children at serious risk.

Mr. Okyere further disclosed that some roads within the municipality have been blocked by floodwaters. He assured residents that the security agencies are working closely with NADMO to protect lives and maintain public safety during the crisis.
