The Chief Executive Officer of Legend Report, Emmanuel Sowah, has cautioned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) could face electoral defeat in the 2028 general elections if it fails to deliver on its proposed 24-hour market project.

According to Mr. Sowah, the initiative by the NDC government to construct 24-hour markets across all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) is a commendable move that has the potential to standardize trading infrastructure and boost local economies.

He revealed that in the Western North Region, all nine assemblies have already handed over project sites to contractors, with work expected to commence soon.

However, he noted that some of the designated sites are currently occupied by traders, who have been temporarily relocated to less comfortable spaces to allow construction to begin.

While commending the government for the initiative, Mr. Sowah expressed concern that failure to complete the project could negatively affect the NDC’s electoral fortunes.

He warned that political opponents could capitalize on any delays or unfulfilled promises as a major campaign message ahead of the 2028 elections.

Mr. Sowah therefore urged the government to ensure consistent funding for contractors to accelerate work and complete the projects on schedule.

He also called on Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to closely monitor contractors across their respective assemblies to ensure timely and efficient execution of the project.

He stressed that no unnecessary delays should be tolerated, given the importance of the project to national development.
Mr. Sowah concluded that if the government successfully delivers the 24-hour markets alongside other key promises, it will strengthen its chances in the 2028 elections.
