Residents of Juaboso Township in the Juaboso District have raised concerns over poor waste management at the Juaboso Market, warning that the situation could lead to a cholera outbreak and other public health risks if urgent action is not taken.

According to residents, large quantities of waste generated during market days are often left uncollected for two to three days after trading activities have ended. They say the accumulated refuse remains at the market for several days, creating an unpleasant environment and posing serious health concerns.

Residents explained that whenever it rains, water washes through the piles of waste, producing foul odours and creating unhygienic conditions that could encourage the spread of cholera and other communicable diseases. They believe the waste should be cleared immediately after market days to prevent such risks.

Some residents and shop owners living and working near the market told Legendreport.com that the persistent stench makes it difficult to sit comfortably in their homes and shops. They appealed to the Environmental Health Department, the Juaboso District Assembly, and other relevant stakeholders to take immediate steps to improve waste collection and sanitation at the market before the situation escalates into a public health emergency.

The residents are urging authorities to implement a more effective waste management system to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for traders, shoppers, and the entire Juaboso community.
