A women’s group in the Aowin Municipality, known as Sisters for Life, has donated essential medical and sanitary supplies to the Enchi Municipal Hospital to support healthcare delivery in the municipality.
The items donated include wheelchairs, bedspreads, mops and other essential supplies needed by the hospital.
Speaking during the presentation, President of Sisters for Life, Madam Rita Boadu, said the group was formed with the vision of uniting women in the Aowin Municipality to contribute to the development of the area.
She explained that supporting the hospital was one of the practical ways the group could contribute to the development of the municipality, noting that healthcare facilities serve a large number of people and often face various challenges.
Madam Boadu said the group decided to donate what it could afford as a contribution towards improving conditions at the Enchi Municipal Hospital.
Receiving the items, the Medical Superintendent of the Enchi Municipal Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Coomson, expressed appreciation to Sisters for Life for the gesture.
He said the donation had come at an appropriate time, particularly because the hospital is an old establishment and some of its facilities and equipment require refurbishment and replacement.
Dr. Coomson encouraged other individuals, groups and organisations to emulate the initiative and support the hospital in addressing some of its logistical challenges.
The Mbrantehene, Nana Kwame Asare Bimpong, also highlighted blood shortage as one of the challenges facing the hospital.
He therefore called on the group and other stakeholders to consider organising blood donation exercises to help replenish the hospital’s blood bank and ensure adequate blood is available for patients who may need it.
