The Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, has called for calm and restraint following the deadly shooting incident at Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso District , which claimed two lives and left several others injured.
In a statement issued on the incident, Brentum expressed profound sadness over the tragedy and extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the Government and the people of the Western North Region. He also wished those receiving medical treatment a speedy and full recovery.
Describing the incident as a painful moment for Sefwi Sayerano, the Juaboso District , and the entire Western North Region, the Minister assured the affected families of his thoughts and prayers.
He appealed to residents of Sefwi Sayerano and neighbouring communities to remain calm, exercise maximum restraint, and refrain from acts of retaliation or violence. He urged the public to allow the appropriate state institutions to carry out a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The preservation of peace, protection of lives, and maintenance of public order must remain our shared responsibility,” the Minister stressed.
Mr. Brentum also called on the security agencies to discharge their constitutional responsibilities with professionalism, restraint, transparency, and respect for the fundamental human rights of all citizens.
He further encouraged continuous engagement between the security services, traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and members of the community to restore public confidence, promote reconciliation, and prevent any further escalation of tensions.
The Regional Minister noted that the Western North Region has long been recognised for its peaceful coexistence, unity, and resilience, expressing hope that the unfortunate incident would not undermine the harmony that has always characterised the region.
He urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations so that the truth would be established and justice served in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Ghana.
Mr. Brentum concluded by praying for God’s comfort for the bereaved families, healing for the injured, and lasting peace for Sefwi Sayerano, the Juaboso Municipality, and the Western North Region.
