Tension erupted during the Western North Regional Executives elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Sefwi Edwinaase in the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, as supporters disputed the outcome of the Regional Chairmanship race.
The elections, which were generally conducted in a calm atmosphere, attracted significant attention from party delegates and supporters, particularly the contest for the Regional Chairmanship.

The chairmanship race featured McDaniels Nyame, Pious Vincent Abekah and Martha Kwayie Manu.
Initial figures from the counting appeared to suggest that McDaniels Nyame had won the contest, prompting celebrations among his supporters.
However, as the counting continued, the results showed Pious Vincent Abekah leading by 15 votes.
Supporters of McDaniels Nyame subsequently called for a recount, while the Electoral Commission maintained that it was satisfied with the outcome of the counting.
Tensions heightened as some supporters and party sympathisers moved towards the area where the ballot box was kept. Police officers present at the venue intervened to prevent the situation from escalating.

Given the rising tension, the police quickly secured the ballot box and transported it to the nearest police station for protection until calm was restored.
The Electoral Commission subsequently declared the results, with Pious Vincent Abekah emerging as the elected Western North Regional NPP Chairman.
The newly elected regional executives were later sworn into office by the party leadership.
The elections ended with calm restored at the venue.
