Traditional leaders, religious authorities, technocrats and other stakeholders have gathered in Sefwi Akontombra to deliberate on the proposed Akontombra Constituency Development Fund, an initiative aimed at mobilising local resources to complement government development interventions within the constituency.
The engagement, held on Thursday, September 25, 2026, formed part of a wider consultation process that began a day earlier in Sefwi Nsawora.
The meeting provided stakeholders with an opportunity to examine the purpose and objectives of the proposed fund and discuss how it could eventually be structured to respond to the development needs of residents.
At the heart of the initiative is the creation of an additional source of locally mobilised resources that could be directed towards areas that directly affect the lives of residents.
While government continues to undertake development projects, the initiative seeks to explore how individuals and groups within the constituency can also contribute towards addressing pressing community needs.
The vision behind the programme was explained by the Member of Parliament for Akontombra, Hon. Pious Kwame Nkuah, who said internally mobilised resources could complement government interventions and provide additional support for development within the constituency.
According to the MP, the proposed fund could support areas including education, healthcare, youth development, community infrastructure, agriculture, and assistance for children and other people in need.
Demonstrating his commitment to the initiative, Hon. Pious Kwame Nkuah announced that he would contribute 10 percent of his salary from the beginning of his tenure as Member of Parliament until he leaves office towards the proposed fund.
The commitment forms part of the broader concept of encouraging people in positions of responsibility and other members of the constituency to contribute towards a common development objective.
The consultation was chaired by Hon. Appiah Kubi, who provided direction on the proposed programme, including its goals and objectives.
His contribution focused on the need to clearly define what the fund should seek to achieve and how stakeholders could work together to establish a system capable of responding to genuine community needs.
The discussions also brought a strong traditional perspective through the participation of Akontombrahene Nana Ebi II and his elders.
Nana Ebi II welcomed the initiative and referred to an experience from the history of Sefwi Akontombra, recalling how a previous king mobilised people during his reign to contribute quantities of cocoa towards the construction of his palace.
According to the chief, the collective contributions eventually helped in the construction of the palace, which today stands among the notable traditional palaces in the Western North Region.
Nana Ebi II used the historical example to illustrate how community contributions can be brought together around a shared objective.
He expressed his appreciation for the proposed fund and contributed to the discussion on how such an initiative could benefit the people of Akontombra.
The engagement also attracted contributions from members of the clergy, imams and technocrats, who shared their views on the proposed programme.
The clergy expressed their readiness to assist, while the imams and technical professionals also participated actively in the discussions.
Their involvement brought different perspectives to the consultation, particularly as the proposed fund is expected to serve communities with diverse needs and development priorities.
Beyond the mobilisation of funds, the consultation highlighted the importance of establishing a clear framework for the proposed initiative.
Issues including the identification of development priorities, management of resources, selection of beneficiaries and projects, transparency and accountability will be important considerations as the programme progresses.
The proposed Akontombra Constituency Development Fund is therefore emerging from the consultations as a community-oriented initiative built around the principle of collective contribution towards development.
The participation of the MP, traditional authorities, religious leaders, technocrats and other stakeholders reflects an effort to bring different sections of the constituency into the conversation before the programme is fully developed.
