The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, and the Paramount Chief of the Nsein Traditional Area, Awulae Kwasi Amakyi III, have thrown their support behind the ongoing production of A Journey To Africa, a movie project by Weezy Empire featuring renowned Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win.

The production, currently taking place at Nzulezu, a unique tourist community in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region, has attracted attention following the MP’s financial support and a surprise visit by the traditional ruler, who also serves as Vice President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs.

Madam Affo-Toffey, who is also the Deputy Minister of Transport, reportedly extended financial assistance to the production team to support the ongoing filming.

The Jomoro Municipal Chief Executive, Benedict Boadi, delivered the MP’s undisclosed cash donation to the movie set on her behalf.

Speaking on behalf of the MP, Mr Boadi said she was ready to support Lil Win and the wider Ghanaian movie industry, particularly initiatives that promote Nzulezu and the Jomoro Municipality.

The gesture is expected to provide additional support to the production team as work continues on the anticipated movie.

Nigerian Stars Join Lil Win in Nzulezu

The production has brought together several prominent Nigerian actors and actresses, including Patience Ozokwor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Zubby Michael, Charles Awurum, Mike Ezuruonye and Destiny Etiko.

Their involvement adds an international dimension to the project and brings together established talents from Ghana and Nigeria.

The film, produced by Weezy Empire, is expected to contribute to efforts to expand the reach of Ghanaian filmmaking while showcasing the country’s cultural attractions to audiences beyond its borders.

Nsein Paramount Chief Visits Movie Set

In a separate show of support, Awulae Kwasi Amakyi III paid a surprise visit to Lil Win and the cast and crew at the filming location.

The visit provided an opportunity for the traditional ruler to interact with the actor and his production team, commend their creative efforts and share his interest in the development of Ghana’s film industry.

During the encounter, the chief reportedly recommended Ghanaian actors IK and Rukaya for consideration in the ongoing production, expressing interest in creating opportunities for local talents to contribute to the project.

His engagement highlights the potential role of traditional authorities in encouraging the creative arts and promoting cultural initiatives within their traditional areas.

Chief Offers Prayers for Lil Win’s Proposed Nkrumah Movie

Beyond the ongoing production, Awulae Kwasi Amakyi III also pledged his prayers for Lil Win’s proposed movie about Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, to become a reality.

The proposed film could provide an opportunity to explore the life, leadership and historical legacy of one of Africa’s most influential political figures through cinema.

The chief’s expression of goodwill signals his support for the actor’s ambition to bring an important chapter of Ghana’s history to the big screen.

If realised, the project could also contribute to historical storytelling and efforts to introduce younger audiences to Ghana’s political heritage.

Nzulezu in the Spotlight

The ongoing filming has also placed the spotlight on Nzulezu, a historic settlement built on stilts over Lake Tadane in the Jomoro Municipality.

Known for its distinctive architecture and natural surroundings, the community is one of Ghana’s notable cultural and tourism destinations.

Using Nzulezu as a filming location presents an opportunity to showcase its heritage and scenic beauty to a wider audience, potentially drawing greater attention to tourism opportunities in the Western Region.

The production therefore brings together filmmaking, cultural heritage and tourism promotion, with the potential to create wider interest in the area.

Boost for Ghana’s Creative Industry

The support from Dorcas Affo-Toffey and Awulae Kwasi Amakyi III highlights the importance of collaboration between political leaders, traditional authorities and industry players in advancing Ghana’s creative sector.

As local filmmakers continue to pursue projects that celebrate Ghanaian culture, history and contemporary experiences, support from public officials and traditional institutions can help create opportunities for investment, talent development and wider audience engagement.

For Lil Win and Weezy Empire, A Journey To Africa represents another major creative undertaking, while the proposed film about Dr Kwame Nkrumah could mark a further step towards historical storytelling through Ghanaian cinema.

Attention will now be on the progress of the ongoing production, its eventual release and the possibility of Lil Win’s proposed Nkrumah movie becoming a reality.
