The Member of Parliament for the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency, Pious Kwame Nkuah, has disclosed that the Akontombra District Hospital does not have an emergency ward, describing the situation as a major challenge to healthcare delivery in the district.
Speaking during the district launch of the government’s Free Primary Healthcare Policy at Sefwi Nsawora on 1st July 2026, the MP made the revelation in the presence of the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

According to Mr. Nkuah, although the district has a hospital, it lacks an emergency unit to provide urgent medical care for patients.
How can you have a hospital without an emergency unit? he questioned.
The MP appealed to the Minister for Health and the Ministry of Health to urgently construct an emergency ward for the Akontombra District Hospital to make it a fully functional healthcare facility capable of providing quality emergency services to the people of Sefwi Akontombra.
He stressed that the addition of an emergency unit would significantly improve healthcare delivery and help save lives in the district.
