The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has confirmed that the Western North Region will receive a new regional hospital as part of the government’s healthcare infrastructure expansion agenda.

Speaking on July 1, 2026, during a courtesy call on the Chief of Sefwi Boinzan and Acting President of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, the minister stated that the government remains committed to its promise of constructing six regional hospitals in the six newly created regions across the country.

According to Mr. Akandoh, the 2026 national budget has made provision for the construction of three of these regional hospitals, and the Western North Region is among the first three regions selected to benefit from the project.

He emphasized the importance of securing and properly documenting the land that will be allocated for the hospital project to prevent any future legal disputes that could delay construction.

The minister therefore appealed to traditional authorities and stakeholders in the region to ensure that all land documentation processes are completed before work begins.

Responding to the minister’s remarks, Nana Ofori Ahenkah II, Chief of Sefwi Boinzan and Acting President of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, assured the government of the council’s readiness to provide land for the construction of the regional hospital.

He noted that the traditional council is fully committed to supporting the project and pledged that any land allocated for the facility would be properly documented and protected under his supervision to ensure a smooth implementation process.

The proposed regional hospital is expected to improve access to quality healthcare services for residents of the Western North Region and reduce the burden on existing health facilities.
