Residents of Diawuokrom and Nsiahkrom, two farming communities in the Kwasare Krom electoral area of the Bia East District, are facing severe water challenges and are being forced to drink from a muddy water source shared with stray animals.

According to residents, the communities do not have a borehole and lack a reliable source of clean drinking water. As a result, they depend on a muddy pit created by an excavator during road reshaping works in the area. The pit was accidentally formed when the excavator dug into the ground and water emerged, and residents have since been using it as their only water source.
According to the residents , it was not properly dug because the excavator was unable to dig the area, and water came out of it. They have been using it since then.

According to the residents, stray animals like cows come to drink the water after grazing, and because they do not have any options, they also go fetch that water for their households and even for drinking if they have money to buy sachet water.
They are calling on the DCE and MP for Bia East to intervene.

Legendreport spoke with the Assemblyman, Collins Amuyaw, who said that the water crisis in the area is very challenging. He also mentioned that other stakeholders have written to the Assembly many times. When the previous administration was in power, he wrote to the Assembly, but they said they would receive common funds, yet they didn’t make any effort. He has also written to the current administration, but no effort has been made yet.
He has also written to the current administration, but no effort has been made yet. He said the water crisis is very challenging and needs urgent attention. He calls on the government, the Assembly, and individuals to support by providing the borehole so that his people can get potable water to drink.
