11 arrested over illegal possession of arms in Adambrobe chieftaincy dispute

The Aburi District Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested eleven (11) suspects at Adambrobe in Aburi for possessing arms and ammunition without lawful authority, in connection with an ongoing chieftaincy dispute.

Ten of the suspects were arrested on Sunday, May 3, 2026. They have been identified as Dawu Joseph, a farmer; Kwame Aboagye, a vulcanizer; Samuel Obeng, a taxi driver in Adambrobe; Owusu Paul, a member of the Adambrobe Asekyere family; and Jerry John Kwame Atilla, a businessman based in Sowutuom.

The others Evans Dekadzor, Christian Atsu, Samuel Annan, Thomas Davidson, and Richard Agyemang are all private security personnel.

Police retrieved five (5) pump-action rifles, twenty-three (23) live cartridges, one (1) taser, six (6) mobile phones, and one (1) piece of body armour.

Two vehicles used to transport the suspects were also impounded: an unregistered Ford pickup and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560-19.

An additional suspect, Douglas Amoako Danquah, was arrested on Monday, May 4, 2026, after he was spotted in a procession within the township, bringing the total number of arrests to eleven (11).

All suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
