The Bodi District Assembly has supported 147 persons with disabilities in the district through the Disability Fund, providing them with various items and financial assistance to improve their livelihoods.
The beneficiaries received items including hairdryers, fufu-pounding machines, refrigerators, and other equipment based on their individual needs. Some beneficiaries also received cash support to cater for medical treatment.
Speaking to the media, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bodi, Stephen Baidoo, said the items were purchased with funds from the fourth quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
According to him, the Assembly spent approximately GH¢530,000 on the items distributed to the beneficiaries.
He explained that the beneficiaries were allowed to identify items they believed could help improve their livelihoods and living standards.
The DCE urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to achieve the purpose for which the support was provided.
The Chairman of the Federation of Persons with Disabilities in the Bodi District, Solomon Nkansah, explained that the decision to provide beneficiaries with items instead of cash followed observations that some beneficiaries did not use previous financial support for its intended purpose.
He said the new approach would ensure that beneficiaries received items that could directly support their livelihoods.
Mr. Nkansah added that persons who require medical assistance are provided with cash support, while those who need assistance with school fees are also supported by the Assembly.
He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to improve their livelihoods.
He also appealed to persons with disabilities who were not included in the latest distribution to remain patient and ensure their names are duly registered so they could be considered in the next quarter.
The Social Welfare and Community Development Director for Bodi, John Azuma Atoukonto, said several persons with disabilities had previously benefited from similar support from the Assembly.
He noted that monitoring exercises conducted by the department had shown positive changes in the lives of beneficiaries.
According to him, beneficiaries have expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the support, saying the items have helped improve their livelihoods.
Mr. Atoukonto assured that the department would continue to monitor beneficiaries and provide the necessary support to ensure the items are put to good use.
He therefore encouraged all beneficiaries to take good care of the items and use them productively to improve their living conditions.
