Parents and guardians have been urged to desist from forcing underage girls into marriage, as the practice threatens their education, personal development and future prospects.

The Girl Child Coordinator at the Kintampo Education Directorate, Madam Janet Saah, made the call during an engagement with stakeholders on growing concerns about child marriage in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region.

She said forcing young girls into marriage deprives them of the opportunity to complete their education and acquire the knowledge and skills needed to become productive and independent members of society.

Madam Saah urged parents and guardians to support and encourage their daughters to remain in school, stressing that investing in the education of the girl child is essential to securing a brighter future for both the children and their communities.

She further called on stakeholders, including teachers, traditional leaders and community members, to join forces to prevent child marriage and protect the rights, education and future of young girls.

She emphasised the need for collective efforts to ensure that every girl is given the opportunity to pursue her education and achieve her full potential.
