Ghana’s Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has been elected Chairman of Committee B of the World Health Organization during the ongoing World Health Assembly.

The Ministry of Health, in a statement, congratulated the Minister on his election, describing the achievement as a significant milestone for Ghana’s growing role in global health governance and international health diplomacy.

Committee B is one of the two principal committees of the World Health Assembly and is responsible for overseeing the administrative and institutional operations of the WHO. The committee handles matters relating to financing, oversight, accountability, staffing, collaboration with the United Nations, and other intergovernmental organizations, as well as reforms aimed at improving the effectiveness of the global health body.

According to the Ministry, many of the key decisions that shape how global health systems are managed, strengthened, and sustained are discussed and adopted within Committee B.

The Ministry further noted that Hon. Akandoh’s election reflects the increasing confidence the international community has in Ghana’s contributions to global health discussions and the country’s active participation in shaping worldwide responses to health challenges.

The statement added that Ghana remains committed to supporting international cooperation in healthcare delivery, public health policy, and institutional reforms that will improve health systems across the globe.

The election of Mr. Akandoh is expected to strengthen Ghana’s visibility and influence within the global health sector while reinforcing the country’s reputation as an active contributor to international health governance.
