The interim executives and members of the Western Journalists Association have held a crucial engagement with the Western North Regional Police Command over the tragic murder of 8-year-old Josephine Ayitey at Sefwi Asawinso.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, was led by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Dr. Francis Tsidi, following growing public concern surrounding the heartbreaking incident.
Josephine Ayitey reportedly went missing and was later found dead on a farm at Sefwi Asawinso less than 24 hours after her disappearance.
According to the association, intelligence gathered earlier suggested that some suspects had already been arrested in connection with the case. This prompted the journalists to issue a press release after several unsuccessful attempts to verify the information.

To seek clarity, the interim executives of the association, led by Vice President Benjamin Atta Agyeman, followed up directly with the Regional Police Command. During the engagement, the police confirmed that no arrest has yet been made in connection with the murder, contrary to earlier reports.
However, the police assured the journalists that extensive investigations are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators behind the gruesome killing.
DCOP Dr. Francis Tsidi reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to ensuring that all persons involved in the murder of Josephine Ayitey are brought to justice.
Vice President Benjamin Atta Agyeman also pledged the support of the journalists’ association in assisting the police to ensure justice is served.
The Western Journalists Association emphasized that journalists in the region remain resolute and committed to pursuing justice for Josephine Ayitey, regardless of the status of those involved.
