The Member of Parliament for the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, Kofi Bentil Afful, has revealed that the construction of a modern market at Sefwi Asawinso was one of the key promises he made to market women during the 2024 election campaign, even before the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative was introduced.
According to the MP, he assured traders and residents that if elected, he would ensure the redevelopment of the Asawinso Market to improve trading activities and create a better business environment for market women.

He explained that shortly after winning the election, he began preparations for the project by supplying sand and other materials to support the planned construction work.
The MP further disclosed that the concept forms part of the government’s vision for the 24-Hour Economy, an idea championed by Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to support businesses, increase productivity, and strengthen local economic development across the country.
He expressed optimism that the project would transform Asawinso into a vibrant commercial center and contribute significantly to the economic growth of the Western North Region.
