The Nkoranza South Municipal Assembly in the Bono East Region has disbursed GH¢277,000 from the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) component of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to support 57 beneficiaries.
The funds were distributed on Thursday, October 22, 2026, during a ceremony held at the Nkoranza South Municipal Assembly. The support is intended to assist beneficiaries in education, healthcare, income-generating activities and personal welfare.
Speaking to Fabea FM’s Apiah-Kubi after the event, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkoranza South, Hon. Godfred Dapaa, urged beneficiaries to use the funds for their intended purposes to improve their living conditions and achieve financial independence.
Hon. Dapaa explained that the government’s decision to increase the allocation for Persons with Disabilities from 3% to 5% of the District Assemblies Common Fund would enable more people living with disabilities to benefit from the programme.

He added that reforms in the disbursement process had improved transparency and increased the funds released directly to assemblies, paving the way for greater support for PWDs.
“The money coming to the assemblies has increased because a greater percentage of the Common Fund is now released directly to us. This means allocations to Persons with Disabilities will also continue to increase,” he said.
57 Beneficiaries Receive Support
The Nkoranza South Municipal Social Welfare Director, Mr. Bukari Emmanuel, disclosed that the 57 beneficiaries were selected to receive support under different categories.
According to him, 38 beneficiaries received assistance to establish or expand income-generating activities, including petty trading, tabletop businesses and agriculture.
Seven beneficiaries each received support for medical assistance and caregiving, while five others benefited from educational support, including assistance for students at Shalom Special School.
Mr. Bukari explained that applicants seeking financial assistance for businesses were interviewed to assess their preparedness and ability to utilise the funds effectively before approval.
He stressed that the programme was designed to empower persons with disabilities to become economically independent, adding that beneficiaries would continue to be selected in batches as funds became available.
“The purpose of this fund is to empower Persons with Disabilities to become economically independent. Since resources are limited, beneficiaries will continue to be selected in batches as funds become available,” he stated.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Municipal Assembly for the support and pledged to use the funds responsibly to improve their livelihoods and living conditions.
The intervention forms part of efforts to promote the welfare, inclusion and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities in the Nkoranza South Municipality.
