The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western North Region has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of neglecting the development and welfare needs of residents of the Suaman Constituency.
The NPP’s Regional Communications Officer, Harry Yaw Addo, made the allegations in a media statement dated September 3, 2026, in response to comments attributed to the NDC Regional Chairman, Michael Aidoo, popularly known as Big Aidoo, regarding the party’s intention to unseat the Member of Parliament for Suaman, Frederick Gilbert Addy.
According to the NPP, the NDC should focus on addressing the development needs of constituents rather than concentrating on electoral ambitions.
NPP Lists Alleged Unfulfilled Promises
The NPP questioned the status of several promises it says were made to the people of Suaman during the 2024 election campaign.
These include the alleged job creation agenda and the 1:3:3 job policy, a purported promise of GH¢6,500 per bag of cocoa, irrigation systems for cocoa farmers in Dadieso, and affordable electricity meters for market traders.
The party also criticised the government’s approach to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, claiming that promised technological interventions, including the use of artificial intelligence, have not materialised.
The NPP said these issues require urgent attention because they directly affect the livelihoods of young people, farmers and traders in the constituency.
NPP Highlights MP’s Development Initiatives
Defending, Frederick Gilbert Addy, the NPP listed several projects and interventions it says the MP has undertaken or supported since assuming office.
According to the party, these include:
- Drilling 23 boreholes in 23 communities.
- Construction of a bridge across the Fanoma River.
- Provision of an incubator for the Suaman Hospital.
- Sponsorship of medical students.
- Construction of the Kwabenakrom CHPS Compound, which is ongoing.
- Donation of GH¢300,000 to support market women in Dadieso.
- Donation of GH¢240,000 to support tertiary students.
- Provision of motorbikes to the Suaman Education Directorate.
- Annual distribution of mathematical sets to BECE candidates.
- Construction of the Kintampo School, which is ongoing.
NPP Cites Previous Development Projects
The party further highlighted several projects it says were secured through lobbying by, Frederick Gilbert Addy in collaboration with former NPP District Chief Executives when the NPP was in government.
The projects cited include the tarring of roads in Suaman, construction of the Dadieso–Enchi Road, the Dadieso District Court and the court judge’s bungalow.
Others include the Agenda 111 Hospital, the Afranic Plantation Cocoa Seedling Production Unit, Suaman Education Office, boys’ dormitory at Dadieso Senior High School, a 7kW solar power system for a water project, the SDA Nurses’ Quarters, Adiepena Health Centre and Nurses’ Quarters, as well as employment opportunities at various government agencies.
The NPP also mentioned the construction of school blocks, including six-unit classroom blocks at Karlo SDA and Asuopokua, alongside telecommunications infrastructure in the constituency.
NPP Reaffirms Support for Suaman MP
Mr. Harry Yaw Addo said the NPP remains committed to the development of Suaman and expressed the party’s continued support for, Frederick Gilbert Addy.
He urged the NDC to focus on delivering on its campaign promises to constituents instead of concentrating on attempts to capture what the NPP considers a secure parliamentary seat.
The NPP said it would continue to advocate for development projects and initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents of the Suaman Constituency.
The NDC Regional Chairman and other relevant NDC officials had not, in the statement, been given an opportunity to respond to the allegations. Their response would be necessary to provide the other side of the claims made by the NPP.
