Residents of Akwabengkrom, a farming community in the Bia East District of the Western North Region, are appealing to the government and relevant authorities to provide them with a CHPS Compound to improve access to healthcare services.
According to residents, the community has a population of about 300 people but lacks a health facility, making access to healthcare very difficult. Speaking to Legendreport.com, residents explained that the absence of a health facility in the community forces many people to rely on self-medication whenever they fall sick.
They noted that community members are often compelled to travel to nearby communities or the district capital, a journey that takes about 30 minutes or more before they can access medical care.

Residents further stated that the poor condition of the road network worsens the situation, especially during emergencies. Due to these challenges, many people resort to self-medication and hope to recover instead of seeking proper medical attention.
The residents are therefore calling on the government, the Ministry of Health, and the Bia East District Assembly to consider building a CHPS compound in the community.
Speaking on the issue, Nana Okyeame Kwame Adu described the situation as worrying, especially during emergencies at night.
He explained that when someone suddenly falls sick, residents are forced to travel long distances to the district capital under difficult road conditions before they can receive treatment.
According to him, pregnant women suffer the most because they are often transported on motorbikes to health facilities during labor, which puts both the mother and child at risk.

He therefore appealed to the authorities to urgently provide the community with a CHPS compound to improve healthcare delivery and save lives.
