The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akontombra, Joseph Appiah, has disclosed that the 24-Hour Market Construction Project being undertaken at Nsawora in the Akontombra District has been upgraded from Model 3 to Model 2.
According to the DCE, the initial plan classified the project as Model 3, which was intended for District Assemblies, while Model 2 was designated for Municipal Assemblies and Model 1 for Metropolitan Assemblies.
He explained that following further consideration of the potential for future expansion at the selected site, the Assembly engaged the consultant, contractor and other stakeholders for discussions, leading to the decision to adopt the Model 2 design.
Mr. Appiah said the location of the market is strategically important because the area is busy and has the potential to contribute significantly to economic activity and growth in the district.
Speaking during an inspection visit to the project site, the Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, said he was impressed with the progress of work.
The Regional Minister noted that he had previously visited the project when construction was at the footing stage, but said he was impressed with the level of progress recorded since his last visit.
He explained that the Akontombra 24-Hour Market was the third such project he had inspected in the region as part of his ongoing monitoring of government projects.
According to Mr. Brentum, based on his inspections so far, the Akontombra project appeared to be at a more advanced stage compared with the other projects he had visited, and expressed hope that the contractor would complete the project within the scheduled timeframe.
The Regional Minister further noted that the location of the market aligns with the area being considered under the government’s Big Push programme and said the combination of the two projects could contribute to boosting economic activity in the area.
The Akontombra District selected Nsawora as the location for the construction of its 24-Hour Economy Market.
The comments were made when the Western North Regional Minister visited the Akontombra District to inspect ongoing development projects.
