Jomoro, Western Region Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency and Deputy Transport Minister, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has supported more than 1,000 newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students in the constituency through her annual scholarship initiative.
The initiative, now in its sixth edition, brought together beneficiaries from 111 public and private schools across the Jomoro Constituency.
The students received educational items including trunks, mattresses, chop boxes, exercise books and mosquito nets to help them prepare for their transition from basic school to various second-cycle institutions.
Female beneficiaries also received sanitary pads as part of the support package.
The presentation was held at Bonyere Junction and attracted parents and guardians, traditional leaders, including chiefs and queen mothers, constituency executives, and other stakeholders.
Madam Affo-Toffey started the initiative in 2021, before becoming a Member of Parliament. In 2025, more than 600 BECE graduates benefited from the scholarship support, while this year’s edition has expanded to over 1,000 students.
According to the MP, the initiative is not merely about providing educational materials but represents an investment in the future of children in Jomoro.
For me, this is more than a scholarship it is an investment in the future of our children and a way of easing the burden on parents, she said.
She added that the initiative would continue beyond her tenure as MP.
This has come to stay, and even after I have retired, whoever would take after me should be willing to continue and make sure the people of Jomoro benefit,Madam Affo-Toffey said.
The MP explained that seeing beneficiaries from previous editions progress to tertiary institutions remains one of her major motivations for sustaining the programme.
She expressed appreciation to parents, guardians, traditional authorities, constituency executives and other stakeholders for their support.
Our children are Jomoro’s future, and I remain committed to giving them every opportunity to succeed,she said.
Madam Affo-Toffey also expressed gratitude to God for enabling the initiative to reach its sixth year.
The Jomoro Municipal Chief Executive, Benedict Boadi, commended the MP for her continued investment in education in the municipality.
Mr. Boadi said the education sector had benefited from the MP’s support in various ways, including assistance that had contributed to the development of school infrastructure in communities across the municipality.
He said he could attest to the impact of the MP’s interventions and urged stakeholders to acknowledge and encourage such efforts.
The MCE further announced October as a commissioning month, indicating that the Assembly, together with the MP, would commission several completed development projects, including school buildings.
The latest scholarship initiative forms part of efforts to support students from financially challenged households and enable them to begin their second-cycle education with some of the basic items required for school.
