The Member of Parliament for the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, Kofi Afful Bentil, has clarified the distinction between a TVET Centre and a TVET Senior High School (SHS) following public discussions surrounding the proposed establishment of a TVET SHS at Sefwi Boako.

About a week ago, the MP, during parliamentary proceedings with the Minister for Education, discussed plans to establish a TVET Senior High School at Sefwi Boako in the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency. Following the release of the information by the MP’s office, the Western North Regional Communications Directorate of the NPP, led by Harry Addo, organized a press conference to respond to the announcement.

At the press conference, the NPP indicated that there was already an ongoing TVET project at Sefwi Boako, which had been initiated under the previous NPP administration. According to the party, the project, when completed, would help equip young people with employable and entrepreneurial skills through technical and vocational training.

The comments generated debate within the constituency, with many residents seeking clarification on whether the proposed TVET SHS was the same as the existing TVET Centre project.

Speaking on Liberty FM’s morning show on June 1, 2026, hosted by Kayaso, Mr. Bentil explained that there is a significant difference between a TVET Centre and a TVET Senior High School. He stated that the project initiated at Sefwi Boako by the previous administration was a TVET Centre designed to provide vocational and skills training for individuals who may not necessarily possess formal academic qualifications.

According to the MP, the proposed TVET Senior High School is a different institution altogether. He explained that admission into a TVET SHS requires students to have completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), just like admission into any other senior high school. Students enrolled in the TVET SHS will combine academic studies with technical and practical training.

Mr. Bentil further disclosed that the proposed TVET SHS forms part of a World Bank-funded project being implemented in selected constituencies across the country. He emphasized that the project aims to strengthen technical and vocational education while providing students with both academic knowledge and practical skills.

The MP also urged the NPP party in the Western North to seek a clear understanding of issues before making public pronouncements. He stressed the importance of accurate communication to avoid misleading the public and creating unnecessary confusion.

He further assured residents that the government remains committed to completing abandoned development projects, including the TVET Centre at Sefwi Boako, to ensure that they serve their intended purpose and benefit the people of the constituency.
