The President of the Western Nzema Traditional Council, Awulae Kwasi Armachi III, has expressed concern over the deplorable state of roads in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region, calling for urgent attention to the situation.
According to the traditional leader, the poor road network remains a major challenge for residents and motorists and could affect development and economic activities in the area.
Awulae Kwasi Armachi III made the remarks when the Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, presented educational support to more than 1,000 pupils who had qualified to enter various tertiary institutions.
One of the major roads highlighted is the approximately 25-kilometre stretch from the Samenyi Barrier area to Newtown, passing through key connections including Jaway Wharf Junction and Half Assini.
The road has reportedly deteriorated significantly, prompting residents and motorists to embark on demonstrations to draw attention to their concerns.
Speaking at the event, Awulae Kwasi Armachi III said the road remained the major issue over which the traditional council and residents were dissatisfied.
The only issue that we are not satisfied with is our roads from Samenyi to Newtown, but I know that she is also talking to me about it and that she will deliver, and I know she will deliver.

In response, the Jomoro MP, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, said efforts were already underway to address the road challenge.
She explained that the contractor was initially expected to cut the sod for the commencement of construction on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, but the exercise had been postponed to Friday, September 18.
According to the Deputy Transport Minister, the contractor is bringing new machinery to site, with some equipment already stationed at the Samenyi Barrier area.
Thankfully, we spoke to the contractor today. Our road from Samenyi Barrier to Newtown is our major challenge. In fact, whatever I do, that is what people ask, so the contractor has promised to be on site so that we can cut the sod for work to commence, Madam Affo-Toffey stated.
She further explained that the contractor would first construct an initial one-kilometre stretch, after which President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, are expected to officially cut the sod for the project.
The development is expected to bring renewed attention to the long-standing road concerns of residents along the Samenyi Newtown corridor.
